WHAT’S ETHICAL PORN?
WHY PAY FOR PORN?
WHY CELEBRATE WOMEN’S SEXUAL PLEASURE?
ETHICALPORN & #FEELGOODPORN.
As the Head Curator of O’actually, understandably I’m asked often about our curation process. In so many ways, I wish I had a super clear bullet point list to share with you. Something like: Films and filmmakers are IN if they have x, y, z and they are OUT if they have a, b, c. However, every time I’ve tried to do that, I’ve caught myself in the narrow and constricting traps of binary thinking. That right and wrong myth that blocks us from our nuanced and complex truths.
The very process of curating porn has shown me it’s not about “the thing” (the sex act, the script or lack thereof, or the sexual identity of the filmmaker). For us, curation is actually grounded in two key components: consent and intent.
THE CORE QUESTIONS THAT GUIDE THE O’ACTUALLY CURATION PROCESS:
From casting procedures to production to the editing room, is everyone involved consenting to the work they are doing?
For consent, yes, there are a million things to consider here – how people are paid, the use of drugs or alcohol, individual’s history of abuse – to name just a few. We do our best to consider them all.
What is the intent driving the creation of the piece?
For the intent, is the creation of the piece rooted in a celebration of the erotic, pleasure, and healing? Making money is wonderful and critically important. However, when the sole intent has a dollar sign on it, the work tends to lack the depth and beauty we are seeking to promote.
Our rubric of consent and intent is expansive and informative. It allows for a a rich variety of genres under our umbrella category of ethical and #FEELGOODPORN. If you have a hot tip for a category, filmmaker, or piece, we’d love to hear from you. Please be in touch.

Transparency: We usually have an affiliate relationship set up with the various filmmakers, studio’s, and brands that we guide our community to. This means that if you first learn of a great membership, program, or product from O’actually and then choose to make a purchase, O’actually will often make a percentage of that sale. This helps us keep our directory of curated works free for our community. Please know that the principles of the curation process drive everything. Products are only promoted after the product meets our curation requirements.
