It’s no secret Margaret Cho is a champion for women’s pleasure. When asked what her sex life was like recently, she responded, “Amazing amazing amazing.” Her openness with female sexuality and love of laughter made her a great subject for one of our favorite projects ever: Hysterical Literature.
Clayton Cubitt’s project reveals the real, surprising, sexy and playfulness of women’s pleasure through art. In it, he asks a variety of women to sit down and read out loud from a book they love. Just out of sight, ducked under a table, an assistant distracts the reader with a vibrator. The women continue to read until they can’t read anymore, overcome with those powerful convulsions of pleasure that take them overly entirely.
Cho’s session shows her being both vulnerable and enjoying herself at the same time – in essence, the ultimate badass. We almost feel like we shouldn’t be watching her because the moment is so real and intimate, which makes the whole thing that much better.

Whether this project is art or sex is up for debate. What we do know is it’s genre bending and boundary breaking – and we love it.
Be sure to check out the rest of the sessions. Watching these women attempt to accomplish a simple task, while being distracted with pleasure and finally succomb will affect you.
Enjoy and let us know, which is your favorite Hysterical Literature session?
