AND GET TURNED ON IN THE PROCESS!
If you love reading stories that shiver your senses and send pleasurable pulses through your system (mmmm, the best!), it’s very possible you’ve entertained the idea of writing your own sexy piece. It’s also very possible you’ve thought to yourself immediately after pondering penning your own erotica, “But I’m not a writer.”
Au contraire. This is one of the hidden secrets of writing: you can absolutely do it. In fact, the only thing standing between you and your writing is you.
Whether you’ve daydreamed of dabbling in writing your lover a salacious story, or are considering crafting a tale to enter the O’actually Festival, read on. We’re sharing steps for how you can write a short piece that will bring you (and possibly others) to orgasm.
Ah yes, that’s another secret to writing: when you write something sexy, it’s next to impossible not to get off while you work on it, and it’s likely you’ll get off to it again and again.
Step one: sexy writing requires sexy brainstorming.

Start by thinking about sex – maybe the last time you had it, the last time you fantasized about it, or some really hot video you caught recently.
The hardest part about writing is getting started. Staring at a blank screen can seem daunting. So, since we’re writing a sexy piece, start by thinking about sex – maybe the last time you had it, the last time you fantasized about it, or some really hot video you caught recently.
Write about that scene – who was there, what happened, how it made you feel. Anything that comes to mind is fair game for 15 minutes.
Don’t worry about “good” or “bad,” “right” or “wrong.” Don’t worry about writing, or trying to sound like a writer. For now, you’re just writing without judgement. You’re writing for you.
Example:
There are a lot of things I’ve always wanted to try. Having a guy go down on me on the side of the road. Running around naked in the ocean with a date. Sex with a drummer (I just bet they have great hands!). I’ve always wanted to have sex in a cab. I know it’s not polite. But the idea of the vibrating road under me, an anonymous driver, and being so hot for my date that we can’t wait til we get home is super sexy. Ooo, and underwater. Maybe in the ocean?
Step two: identify a moment that piques your interest and brainstorm around that.
Now, look back over what you have. Find one or two moments (they can be as short as a fragment, or as long as a couple sentences) that you love. Maybe you just like the way they sound, or maybe they get you aroused.
Move those sentences to the middle of a new document or sheet of paper. They might not be the beginning or the end of what you write, but they’re now the basis of it. We’re going to take this portion of the example as our moment:
I’ve always wanted to have sex in a cab. I know it’s not polite. But the idea of the vibrating road under me, an anonymous driver, and being so hot for my date that we can’t wait til we get home is super sexy.
With that moment in mind, front and center in your page, brainstorm about that. Who might be involved? What is one defining characteristic of each character? Where are you in the world (be specific)? Is it day or night? It helps to choose places and people you’re familiar with. Yes, it’s okay to base fiction on some fact.
Once again, this isn’t about sounding like a writer. It’s about knowing what you want to write about.
Example:
There’s me, my date, and the cab driver. We’re in San Francisco, about to drive across the Golden Gate bridge. It’s late – almost midnight or after. And summer.
The cabbie has a graduation tassel hanging from his rear-view mirror. My date is Vik, a guy I met on Tinder. He has dark skin but blue-green eyes and a streak of gray in his hair. He’s thin but strong. I’m me.

Step three: the hot stuff. What happens between your characters?
And the fun begins. You know what the scene is and who is involved. Now, you just need action! For this part, it’s most fun to simply free-write. Be as descriptive as possible – it is a-okay to use a lot of words. What happens before the sex? Does anyone say anything? What are the reactions, both verbally and physically?
And of course, describe the sex. Anything hot you’ve had happen to you, and anything you’ve dreamed up, is fair game.
Example:
Vik opens the cab door for me. He gives the driver an address. Neither of us buckle our seat belts. The driver glances at me in the rear-view mirror. He’s playing trance-like music, which frankly, turns me on. I love not knowing when it’s going to end.
I lean over and kiss Vik’s neck softly at first. His skin is salty, probably left over from sweating a little while we made out at the bar. He places his hand on my knee, though he’s looking out the window. I pretend to also be interested in what is out the window and his hand slides above my hem and under my dress. His fingers dance on my thighs, pressing the crease where my legs meet my pubic bone. I want him to touch more of me, but I’m worried the cab driver will see.
You get the idea.
Step four: don’t skip the opportunity to revise.
No one writes something to the best of their ability in one shot. Sure, you might write something okay, or even decent. But all writing gets better with revisions.
Take a break from writing – anywhere from a few hours to a day. When you return, you’ll be able to see your piece with fresh eyes and identify places you might want to change, add more details to, or remove altogether. Here’s how our example shook out:
Example:
Vik opens the cab door and pushes me in ahead of him. He gives the driver an address outside the city limits. Neither of us buckle our seat belts. The driver gives me a cursory glance in the rear-view mirror as he pulls back into the sea of red lights and traffic, then turns up the trance-like music he has playing. The music relaxes me for a moment.
I lean into Vik’s neck, softly pressing my lips against his dark skin. He tastes salty, probably leftover sweat from dancing with me at the bar. I feel his neck stiffen as my tongue flicks against him. He places his hand on my knee as we both pretend to be interested in watching the city go by.
His hand slides under my hem, and his fingers dance up my thighs, pressing the crease where my legs meet my pubic bone. I check the rear-view mirror and the driver is oblivious, muttering into his cell phone. I nudge Vik’s arm so he’s now grazing where my cotton underwear covers my clit.
Getting better, right? Imagine what a few more rounds of revisions will do.
Bonus step: share!
Team O’a would be honored to read what hot snippets you come up with! Share it in the comments, or email us at creative@oactually.com
And if you’re still hesitant to start, use the story of Vik and the cab as your jumping off point. What happens next? We can’t wait to know…
